Title: Guide for Carers - Ministry of Social Development (MSD)

 

Description: The Guide is practical help for whānau, aiga and carers who assist family members and friends who need help with everyday living because of a health condition, disability or injury.

 

It includes information on the government-funded services and supports available for family carers, such as:

·         financial help

·         transport and travel

·         assessing needs

·         help at home

·         children with special education needs

·         balancing your caring role with work and study

·         taking care of yourself

·         contacts in time of mental health crisis

·         help with managing bladder or bowel control

·         making and resolving complaints

 

The latest version was updated in 2013 (as of July 2016). You can download the full guide in English or a flyer in English or a number of other languages, from this page:

Target Audience: Family carers, family of people living with dementia, person living with dementia


Appropriate Audience: HCP that are involved in the monitoring and care of people living with dementia that are still independent, or may need extra help. This can be distributed or recommended


Price: Free electronic version on the website. MSD offices may have hard copies.

Description:  This brochure is updated a couple of times a year and has been a very popular resource. It “contains a summary of the services we offer older people”. It pulls together in one brochure a lot of the information that is covered within the website.
